Second Collection: There will a second collection this weekend in aid of the Catholic Education Service.

Lent Talks:  It has been decided to provide a coach to facilitate attending the talks in Devizes given by Rev Timothy Radcliffe OP. Fr Radcliffe, a former Master General of the Dominicans and a world renowned author will be speaking on the topic “The Glory of God is a Human Being Fully Alive”.  The talks will take place on the 3^rd, 10^th, 17^th and 24^th March at 7.30.  It will probably be necessary to leave Calne by 6.45 pm. I have put up a list in the porch where it would be appreciated if you would write your name if you would like to make use of the coach.  I realise it might not be possible for everybody to attend all four talks, but do come along to as many as you can.  There will not be a charge per se for the coach, but it is suggested that a donation be given to help defray the cost of the coach. Please do try to attend these talks which I am sure will be very worthwhile.  There is also a list in the porch for those who would rather go to house groups in Calne during Lent to which you can add your name. If you wish to attend a house group please ensure that your name is on the list by the end of the weekend as the organisers want the names by Monday.

Baptism: Jessica & Nic invite you all to join them for Beatrice's christening at 12pm on Sunday 8 February and/or champagne and cake in the parish hall after 10am mass.

RCIA Group:  Would all those who have very kindly and generously agreed to play a role in the establishing of the St Edmund’s Parish RCIA group please provide Fernley with your email address, so that he, as RCIA co-ordinator can keep in contact and make the necessary arrangements.  Thank-you

Parish Social:  It is intended to hold a summer parish Social on the eve of the 27^th June.  More details to follow later, but do mark this date in your diaries.

Confirmation: Bishop Declan will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on young people form our parish on the 8^th July 2009. If you wish to receive this sacrament next year, and you are year 8 or above in secondary school, please write to me expressing your wish to be confirmed and also provide me with contact details, email and phone if possible.  The letters of application must reach me by no later than the end of January 2009.

First Holy Communions: Would those parents who would like their children to receive Holy Communion for the first time next year please write to me and make their intentions known.  Please include details of your child’s baptism and your contact details. The first Communions will take place on Sunday 14^th June, Corpus Christi.

Help Sought: A Catholic SCHOOL GROUP from Lyon will be in Calne for 4 nights from 16-20 March. Carole Browne is looking for families, couples or even single people, able to offer accommodation to 2, 3 or even 4 children, all aged around 14yrs. They will be out all day on excursions, from 8.30am to 6.30pm. For details of hospitality allowance and procedure please phone Carole on 01249 812551 
 

Parking:  Please do try to utilize all the space in the car park by filling it up from the back and also parking close to other cars so that more spaces are available. It would also be advisable to park in Briansclose Road behind the church and then use the pedestrian through path between nos 69 and 71 Oxford Road. There is also usually space available in the The Pippin and sometimes in Abberd Way. Please don’t park illegally.

Tea in the Hall: Please do come through to the hall after Sunday Mass and very friendly and welcoming group there for tea, coffee and a biscuit and the children can run about safely in the garden. The more people the better!

New Translation of the Roman Missal: The new Missal will probably be introduced into parishes in England in 2011. A proper process of catechesis needs to take place before this happens and a good starting point is to have a look at the texts which have already been improved.
